A time to reflect…

Welcome to 5 Years of Art, a reflection of the work I made during my biggest time of growth and discovery. I’m create amazing archival prints of my favorite time in my career, thus far. As I release these prints, I will tell stories about the series and how it relates to the time I created them. Nothing is created in isolation, and ironically, we were in a time of isolation. Funny thing is that I found myself more isolated before the pandemic than during. I think I will take some time to unpack that.

RURAL FLIGHT 2020

Reflection, January 15, 2025

Five years ago, this month, I had an exhibition of my series, Rural Flight, at the Paramount’s Gallery St. Germain, in downtown St. Cloud. This was an important time in my career, as I was completing a life altering fellowship with National Arts Strategies and I was moving into a dream place that was home and studio all in one. I was creating a body of work with the scholarly work I did at the University of Minnesota still brewing in my head, where I think often of the rural artist and their removal from the art-scene in metro spaces. I realized over many years that my remote position helped me find my authentic voice in an already saturated art world.

The exhibit was a success and many people purchased work for their own collection. Little did I know that the remaining work would sustain me for an unprecedented time in our world history…
